Divisions by Kyell Gold

Divisions is another little step into the life of tiger Dev and fox Lee. They are now a couple, together in front of their respective families and the public. Dev's football team is backing him, new friends are helping them settle into the life of a committed couple and some old friends are creating troubles. This new installment in a series that I loved since book 1 is confirming my idea that this is a very ordinary love story, a nice romance, with that just touch of sexy to make it good, about anthropomorphic characters, but that is like saying the guy had black hair and blue eyes, or the girl had long hair and brown eyes, only that here you have a guy with long stripes and big paws or the other guy with a fluffy tail...

It's also about football, and for me who is not an expert, the feeling is that Kyell Gold knows about the stuff, and so, if you are a fan of that sport, I suppose this is definitely a book you wanted to read; from my external point of view, I suppose there are more men fan of the sport than women, so I would say this is quite a manly romance, but hands up, I'm pretty sure there are also women who love the sport (and the players!).

Other than football the main theme is Lee's struggle with his mother, who has joined an ultra-conservative group that is supposedly helping the families remained united when a kid comes out. Unfortunately the group is moistly trying to "pray out" the gayness from the kid, often with tragic outcomes. Even if in an anthropomorphic setting, unfortunately this side of the story rang very true, and it's saddening to think that this is really happening somewhere, especially in small town where the abused kid (because this is abusing) has no one else helping him out of that trap.

Kyell Gold started the book advising the readers that, once he finished the first draft of the story, it was too long to fit only 1 book, and so he split it into two separate novels. So you will reach the end knowing that not everything will be wrapped up here, but also with the good news that soon enough you will have the chance to spend another pleasant day reading about Dev and Lee.

Great book, but obviously part 1 of 2

Right before Divisions came out, I read the two prequels, Out of Position and Isolation Play. Divisions picks up right where it needs to, and while I'm sure people can enjoy it the book without having read the previous two, I wouldn't recommend it.

Divisions, like the others, is not a story about football, but about the homosexual relationship of a football player and his boyfriend. I gave this book 4/5 stars because I didn't enjoy the book like I did the previous two, but that's mostly because the book ends right in the middle of things, and Kyell himself admits that he basically split one draft into two books. That aside....

The book is everything that I expect from Kyell Gold: the characters are believable, endearing, and dynamic. While I can't say Kyell has a distinct writing style, he does have a crisp, clean, mature style that will not annoy or draw attention to itself.

Overall, I recommend this book and cannot wait for the sequel. I'll probably reread the series again due to how it progresses from one book to another, and I believe that to appreciate the book the most, you have to start the relationship over to understand it properly.

A-to the-Furry mazing

I've been following the series since I first discovered kyell gold. This book, in my opinion, takes the series to a whole new personal level. Dealing with issues that a Coupple would face, not just professional footballers. Fights, undertones and secrets. It's a great read, and I find it impossible to put down once I've started, even after I've already read it. If you've read any of the books you'd know as well as I do that you are going to read it anyway. No matter what I say. It's brilliant, but if you are just coming into the series, start at the start. Because it's beautiful.

About the Author
ANDREW SEIDEL (West Point Military Academy, University of Illinois, Dallas Theological Seminary) serves as the executive director of the Center for Christian Leadership as Dallas Theological Seminary. He also works in Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia with the mission organization Entrust. A graduate of West Point and a veteran of the U.S. Army, Dr. Seidel previously served as senior pastor at Grace Bible Church in College Station, Texas for 14 years. He is the author of Charting a Bold Course. Dr. Seidel and his wife have been married for more than 40 years and have two grown children and six grandchildren.

Some of God's leaders led well, some led poorly. But the one constant is that God has almost always used human leaders to accomplish His purposes on the earth. In Old Testament history, the leaders of God's people tended to be singular personalities, unique men and women who stood out as individual heroes. They were kings, prophets, priests, or judges. The leaders included lower-level citizens, such as those appointed by Moses to act as judges (see Exodus 18:25-26); but, for the most part, Old Testament leaders were highly individualistic, heroic leaders. With the establishment of the church, a major shift in leadership took place. The church has neither kings nor judges; but all believers are priests. Furthermore, all believers are given spiritual gifts with which they are enabled to render significant service for the kingdom of God. Some are specially gifted in the area of leadership; but leadership has become much less of a solitary, heroic occupation. Leadership during the church age is much less individual, much more collegial; it is much less directing or ruling, much more serving and enabling. Church leadership is marked by a plurality of elders and deacons and no singular human head of the church.

How many books are out on the market on the topic of Leadership? Yeah, lots. But, how many are workbooks that you can take a team through? Very few. That's why this book is so practical and helpful. Great Guide

I found this guide excellent and very informative. It goes further than the user manual provided for the camera in that it explains things in a simpler way making it it easier to understand.
I feel, where as this book is very much aimed at a new comer, it is also a great informative, never to be without guide, for the advanced amateur or even pro.
The guide is big enough to give all the help you need to give you good start with your D610 and small enough never to be without it in the field when you are actually using your camera.
A great addition to any camera bag.

Debunking the myths

The subject of Clans, heraldry and tartans in Scotland is massive and complex. The authors, apart from having been Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs are also Procurator Fiscal at the Court of the Lord Lyon and Chair of the Heraldry Society of Scotland. They are in an excellent position to speak on these subjects, what the book has not got is a list correcting the urban myths which have grown up about these subjects, and so allows people to think that it is incomplete or wrong. For example, one review has said that the Campbell tartan show is wrong and that clansmen should wear another. There is no right or ban on wearing any tartan, and Lady Saltoun, Chief of the Clan Fraser, points out that there are many Fraser tartans, some of which she has never even seen in use. The same is true of the Campbells.

The book concentrates on members of the Standing Council because all Chiefs recognised by the Lord Lyon are invited to join. The much briefer second section relates to clans and families without such a chief. Clan Socities and Clan Associations are private clubs, and it is impossible to include their details.

The encyclopaedia gives a decent and accurate history of each clan. It could be more detailed of course, but then, each clan could fill a book, even a one of this size, on its own.

The Scottish Clan & Family Encyclopedia covers Scottish history, Clanship, Tartans, Heraldry, and related matters in general. It then goes on to detail the specific history of each Clan and its leaders, to illustrate the official clan tartans and insignia, and to indicate which families and septs are associated with each clan. The histories and symbols of many prominent Scottish families are also included.
But with hundreds of books published on Clans and Tartans, and more coming out every year, why this one?
Because it is the best fact book on the subject. Written by the Secretary of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs and his Deputy, an Heraldic artist in the Court of the Lord Lyon (Scotland's Chief Herald) and at the Office of the Chief Herald of Ireland, this book provides the most accurate and up-to-date information on Scots Clans, Chiefs, Tartans, and Heraldic practices.
If you want a coffee table picture book, a novel for bedtime or a traveler's souvenir, I recommend something else.
If you want the authoritative source, this is the one to own.

Excellent reference work

If this book was sold by weight it would still be a wonderful buy. It is a heavy volume and very high glass paper. Much care went into making this a collector's book. The Binding is sewing not glued, so the workmanship is not often seen in books these days.
Now to the inside...two pages are dedicated to most Clans, showing excellent colour pictures of the tartan. It also lists the Clan's arms, crest, motto. It give a better than average history of each Clan, which takes up the first 2/3s of the book. The later part takes up the Armigerous Clans, many of these are often left out of works in most Clan and Tartan reference works, so this is definitely a plus. In Appendix 1 they give you a good Chronology of dates of importance in Scottish History. For a timeline, it's better than most I have been in works similar to this. Appendix 2 gives Scottish Monarchs for Kenneth I to the Union of Parliaments in 1707. Appendix 3 is a very nice glossary of Heraldic Terms - was very impressed with this section. Appendix 4 for gives septs and names associated with various Clans. I have seen this in other works, and again, this one is much better. Appendix 5 will be of special interests to people tracing their family treat as his gives you information concerning tracing genealogy in Scotland. There is an Index, with excellent fonts, so easy to read.
All in all worthy, quick reference for the Clans of Scotland.

A good book for helping children who are struggling with Inferencing

This book was designed to help speech therapists, tutors, and parents with children that struggle with the ability to inference information from what they read. Here's an example of inferencing:

The inference in this sentence would be the conclusion that it is raining.

Excellent Book!

I recently picked up my wife's copy of this book. She used this text when in college. I am amazed at how wonderful this book is (I am not sure the author would agree with the grammatical structure of the previous sentence, but this is an informal review). The book is separated into 3 parts: Elements of Research, Techniques, and Experiments. The section on "Elements of Research" is wonderful and is a must read for all pchem students. This part is an excellent reference for any scientist. The "Techniques" part is out of date as far as computers are concerned, but 4 out of the 6 chapters are still relevant dealing with glass handling/blowing, vacuum techniques, temperature measurements, and general instrumentation guts. The "Experiments" part makes up ~ 50% of the text (350 of 800 pages). These experiments represent a good range of both thermodynamics-related and quantum mechanics-related concepts.
