Every time I pick up a new book on Power Electronics, I go to the chapters on feedback and semiconductor theory to see if the author is presenting factual information or, just repeating myths from older books. Under figure 2.3 is a common myth about diode reverse recovery, that recombination of minority carriers waits until the lead current is negative before initiation of charge removal.
No. This is grossly incorrect. Minority charges recombine (limited by the transit time) when the forward current starts to fall. It does not "wait" until the total current goes negative. By the time the total current reaches zero, most of the minority charges may or may not have been already swept out, depending on the negative slope, and thus the time it takes to reach 0 amps.
