About the Author
Dr. Gary A. Porter earned M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Colorado. Dr. Porter taught at several universities, including San Diego State; Loyola University Chicago; and the University of Montana; and has served as a department chair. He is currently Distinguished Lecturer at Drake University. Widely published and the recipient of numerous teaching awards, Dr. Porter has conducted workshops on introductory accounting education and corporate financial reporting, has worked as a staff accountant with Deloitte & Touche, and has actively served the Illinois CPA Society, American Accounting Association, and Financial Executives International.
Dr. Curtis L. Norton received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University and an M.B.A. from the University of South Dakota. He is currently Clinical Professor of Accounting at Arizona State University. As Professor of Accounting at Northern Illinois University for more than 30 years, Dr. Norton earned the University Excellence Teaching Award and has published in THE ACCOUNTING REVIEW, THE JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTING EDUCATION, CPA JOURNAL, as well as other journals. A member of the American Accounting Association and Financial Executives International, he also consults and conducts training for private and governmental authorities, banks, and utilities.

Pretty good textbook as far as textbooks go

Pretty good textbook as far as textbooks go. I wish there were solutions included in the textbook, perhaps for the odds or evens? I would have appreciated a solutions manual or something. Pages rip or mark easily. The worked examples are nice but only of medium help trying to solve the problems.

THE. WORST. TEXTBOOK. EVER.

The pages are thin and easily tear off the binder because the book is so thick. In addition the explanations in the text are vague, convoluted and complicated. The exercises in Cengage are ridiculously time consuming and make leaps and assumptions that the student can bridge a gap.
Example: under capital expenditure the words overhaul are used three times as applying to a capital expenditure. But when used in the exercise on Cengage, then it is not. I am an adult student, working in the nuclear industry and returning to school. I manage contracts and we deal with capital expenditure all the time. The book was nothing like reality.
Example:
I am on exercise 9, part 3 on Cengage. I get to where it tells me to compute the working capital. I go to the book and under "Working capital" in th index it is ONLY s"supposedly" covered in pages 678-679. That's chapter 13, not chapter 9. But then I go to those pages to see an illustrated computation of how to get the working capital- and NOWHERE on those two pages are the words Working and Capital used. Nor is the example related to it. If it is in any way, it is too obscure for someone who up to know has had a 4.0 GPA to even begin to understand.
This is the worst text book I've ever worked with. I've never hated a class as much as this; and the main reason: is because I HAVE LEARNED NOTHING!!
