All of the infinite Planes but the “Home Plane” are thought to be shattered and lifeless; infinitely greater sacrifices have been made before, but the catastrophic repercussions of the planetary system of Za’nar’s bid for survival three million years ago would become a time capsule containing clues to the origins of life in Za’nar and on Earth.
College student and SETI enthusiast Klyde Vance isn’t able to believe Sael Ageis when she tells him she’s from another planet—until she brazenly renders him unconscious with Magic while trying to prove it! A governmental leader from Za'nar, Sael visits Earth on a research mission into the cause of a sudden uprising of monsters across Za’nar one year ago.
Intrigued by the incredible potential to learn Magic she senses in Klyde, she brings him to Za’nar to train and become her partner in the popular (and lucrative) mock-combat arenas. Klyde insists that they be joined by Fae, his ever-exuberant but deeply depressed friend, who makes a discovery that leads to the reemergence of a theatrical friend of Sael’s she thought was lost years ago.
Together, the four dredge up the answers Sael sought on her mission: a dragon, creatures thought to be mythical even by the most prestigious magical scholars, threatens to destroy Za’nar to stop an imminent doomsday on his home planet—Earth.
What begins as a voluntary alien abduction to be an arena combat partner becomes a journey filled with fast-paced fights, fantastical elemental spells and fearsome monsters. And while there’s ancient secrets to uncover and battles to be survived, there’s also complex characters to meet and a vast world to explore in this Urban Fantasy / Sci-Fi Hybrid. From Sael seeking comfort from social anxiety by sticking to facts and research, to Klyde struggling to learn when it's his place to protect someone, to the newly established planetary-spanning parliamentary monarchy being challenged, to booming advancements in Magical study changing everything from transportation to entertainment, the development of characters and worlds is the heart of this 106,000 word adventure through the distant planets of Za'nar.
From author and King of the Nerds Season 2 contestant Zack Storch (Zachary Storch). As seen featured in the MMORPG video game "Adventure Quest Worlds!"

Reads like a first draft
By Changeling
Reads like a first draft. The pacing is all over the place, made worse by jarring transitions and overwhelming info dumps. The use of "you" to refer to Sael is the sort of kitschy trick that might have worked if better executed, but as is, it's off putting and gimmicky. Speaking of Sael, she's some sort of disturbing cross between a manic pixie dream girl, a Mary Sue (which is a term often overused to diminish female characters and not one I use lightly) and an adolescent boy's fantasy girlfriend. Awkwardly formal dialogue clashes with cheesy one-liners, and the prose jumps back and forth between unnecessarily complex and overly colloquial. The premise reads like someone threw a bunch of fantasy and scifi tropes into a hat and picked out a bunch at random. Melding scifi and fantasy can work, but it here it feels contrived and overdone. I only read the first part of the sample offered by Amazon, so maybe it takes a 360 later on, but even if it does I don't know how people kept reading long enough to get there. This needed a good beta read and at least a couple of rewrites.

Great read!
By Mark P Cottrell
I loved this book! I'm an avid reader, mostly of murder/mystery novels but fantasy/sci-fi comes a close second in genres for me. I was fascinated by the worlds created and described in the book and I loved the characters, even if they did act a little cheesy at times! Just added to the story in my opinion. I recommend this book to everyone!

Za'nar is written like a video game--quests
By Audrey
Za'nar is written like a video game--quests, leveling up, getting items, the whole thing! As an avid gamer, it was a blast to read. Awesome writing and well developed characters. I can't wait to read the next one (there is a next one, right??)!
